W4HOD 147.300 REPEATER

The W4HOD 147.300 repeater is on the air. We are getting very good coverage into Auburn, Opelika and west into the Prattville area.

Many thanks to Mike Parmer, KF4OPX, Jeff Mitcham, KG4NYW, and Don Huey, KA4NDY for a great job of getting it on the air..

W4HOD 147.300 REPEATER

Well, it is finally happening. The tower climber mounted our Diamond X500HNA  repeater antenna on April 10th. The antenna is located on the Loachapoka water tower. All that is left to do is some minor tweaking on the controller. We are hoping the repeater will be on the air in a few days.

We were very lucky to have a professional family owned company to climb for us. They have handled many projects for a local engineer and came highly recommended. They have been in business for 50 years and really know their stuff!

JIM JOHNSON - KC4HW

Jim presented our program for the April meeting on the upcoming Alabama QSO Party. The program was aided by a Power Point presentation and was very interesting. The state of Alabama and amateur radio are very fortunate to have Jim and his energy and enthusiasm. The Alabama QSO Party participation has multiplied many times since Jim took over. For information on the AQP, check out their site.  Jim was made an honorary member of the Heart of Dixie ARS and a donation was made to the Alabama Contest Group by W4HOD.

APRIL VE TEST SESSION

The first VE test session for W4HOD was a big success. We had two people test for Technician and and had 100% passing. Congrats to Carmen Wegner and Jason Ward on passing their tests and becoming radio amateurs.

Calls Issued:

Carmen - KJ4DHU

Jason - KJ4DHT

EA RTTY CONTEST

Club members KA4PKB, KF4OPX and AA4YL worked the EA RTTY Contest the weekend of April 5-6, 2008. As of Saturday evening, they had 161 contacts including several Spanish provinces. (Update: 201 contacts as of contest close on Sunday morning) KA4PKB finished up the contest Sunday morning and KF4OPX will calculate the score on Monday.

There were two visitors to the clubhouse for the contest. John Pratt, KC4RSN and his lovely wife Gail visited the clubhouse Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. John worked several stations and made contacts for the log. John is mainly a CW operator, but he really enjoyed the RTTY contest. We hope to see them more often at the clubhouse.

KC4RSN is contemplating purchasing a Cushcraft R8, and he really liked how the club's R8 performed. That is three R8s that have come from the formation of our club. Perhaps Cushcraft should pay us commission.
